FAQs

Does the facility float?

Yes. It is a building housed on a barge, similar to those facilities used in the riverboat gaming business.

Can the facility be relocated?

Yes. For more information on relocation go to the Get the facts... section of this website and click on Portability.

Does the facility have an engine?

No. It is a barge and can only be moved with the assistance of another motorized craft such as a tugboat.

What special care or expertise is required to maintain this facility?

The primary maintenance-related difference is that Waterfront is cooled using "Chillers" rather than traditional air conditioning units. The chiller compressors are cooled with external source water (from river, lake or bay) pumped through the bilge
of the barge to the chillers. The efficiency of this system is superior to traditional
air-cooled air conditioning units. The maintenance of these chillers is somewhat different from air conditioning units, but it's not difficult.

Can you provide us with the names of knowledgeable consultants to help us understand a barge-based facility?

Yes. Such individuals are relatively common and easy to locate.

Do I need a special permit to dock this facility?

Probably, depending on the location. Such permits are regularly obtained by entities such as riverboat casinos which have water-based buildings.

Can the facility be readily insured?

Yes. Similar facilities across the country are insured by large insurance companies.
